A web application offers to home or building owners in Eindhoven information about the electrical and financial gains of installing photovoltaic (PV) solar panels on their roofs.
The ‘Zonatlas’ (SolarMap) provides information about the total cost of purchase, application and maintenance of the PV systems. It uses recent and detailed aerial photos of all roofs in the city, in order to make detailed calculations, taking into account steepness, shadowing effects and other potential factors which can influence the energy yield (electricity to be produced). Furthermore, it calculates a pay‐back time of the investment for every roof in the city, taking into account all relevant parameters, as well as the specific conditions and owners’ wishes.
The objective is to enable citizens to install PV solar panels on their roofs, by providing them with correct and accurate information about the costs and gains.
