CASCADE exploited its links to other European networks and initiatives to contribute to a better implementation of local energy policies in Europe:
Covenant of Mayors
All CASCADE partner cities are signatories of the Covenant of Mayors (CoM) and therefore have committed to reduce CO2 emissions in their territory by more than 20% by the year 2020. Many of them have completed, or are in the process of completing, the first step of this commitment, the development of a Sustainable Energy Action Plan (SEAP), the key document outlining how they are going to deliver their ambitious targets.
CASCADE networking and peer-to-peer learning activities will therefore be a direct support the signatory cities in delivering their CoM commitments and give a boost to other cities interested in joining the CoM initiative. More...
CIVITAS
The CIVITAS initiative aims to support cities in implementing ambitious transport measures and policies. The goal of CIVITAS is to achieve a significant shift in the modal split towards sustainable transport, an objective reached through encouraging both innovative technology (clean vehicles, ICT, etc.) and policy-based strategies.
One of the thematic areas of CASCADE is energy in urban transport. Throughout the project, CASCADE follows the success of measures and projects implemented in CIVITAS. More...
Green Digital Charter
The Green Digital Charter commits cities to reducing emissions through Information and Communications Technologies (ICT); therefore promoting progress in tackling climate change through the innovative use of digital technologies in cities.
Launched by EUROCITIES in November 2009, over 40 major European cities have already signed the Green Digital Charter. NiCE – Networking intelligent Cities for Energy Efficiency is a FP7 funded project which promotes and advances the implementation of the commitments of the Green Digital Charter. More...
CASCADE also cooperates with other Intelligent Energy Europe projects on local energy leadership:
Conurbant project
In the framework of the Covenant of Mayors, the Conurbant project involves medium and large EU cities in contributing to the development of sustainable energy action plans for the smaller municipalities in their urban area. Through peer-to-peer activities and training sessions, Conurbant helps overcome the difficulties these smaller municipalities face when it comes to energy management and planning because of their limited skills and resources. Covenant capaCITY project
The Covenant capaCITY project supports the development of more sustainable energy communities across Europe. With a focus on capacity building of local governments, their networks and energy agencies, an online training platform is established. This is used by start-up municipalities and signatories to the Covenant of Mayors. The platform offers support on 8 topics relevant to the development of local Sustainable Energy Action Plans. It gives basic guidance, ideas, hints, tips and tools- delaing with people, structures, processes for politicians and technical staff. Explore the platform here.
ERENET project
The ERENET project (Rural Web Energy Learning Network for Action) contributes to the development, implementation and monitoring of rural communities’ Sustainable Energy Action Plans (SEAPs). Just like the CASCADE project, ERENET builds up capacity in the related communities through the exchange of knowledge and best practices with more experienced communities. More...
LEAP project
The LEAP project (Leadership for Energy Action and Planning) generated the necessary political will and vision, as well as the administrative capacities for effective sustainable energy management at local level. By means of peer-to-peer activities, the project strengthened local energy leadership among its partners, counting on a catalyst effect for local businesses. More...
